  • Nõusolek peab olema antud vabatahtlikult, ilma survestamise ja lubamatu mõjuta. See peab olema informeeritud nii, et teadusuuringu osaleja on saanud adekvaatse ülevaate uuringu detailidest, selle riskidest ja väärtusest ning oma vabadusest igal ajal loobuda nii, et nad saaksid adekvaatselt kaaluda riske ja kasutegureid vastavalt oma väärtustele ja eelistustele.   • Consent must be freely given and so be free of coercion or undue influence. It must be informed in that the research participant has received adequate disclosure of the details of the research, its risks and value, and their liberty to withdraw at any time so that they can adequately weigh the costs and benefits relative to their values or preferences. Informed consent, so understood, requires a great deal of cog- nitive sophistication or maturity. It is common to think of any neuro-typical adult (understood as someone who has reached the age of majority) as capable of giving informed consent.
  • Although there is uncertainty about whether animals are able to provide informed consent, some scholars argue that there are many situations in which animals, through learning, are able to gather and use information to make decisions (for example, during cooperative care or start button-based practices) and effectively communicate whether they would like to engage in interactions with humans or not.
