Good to know
  • Reserves are uncommitted forces and assets, that are held on standby at the commander's disposal. Reserves are employed to force the decision, to facilitate a shift of the main effort or to overcome critical situations. They can be key to success, especially in combat. The initiative can often be retained or gained only by their employment. Reserves are the most important and often the last means a commander has available to react to unforeseen developments or decisively influence the course of an operation. A reserve must be established for all operations and activities at battalion level and above.
