Eesti keel on Euroopa Liidu ametlik keel ja kõigil tähtsatel Euroopa Liidu asutustel ja organisatsioonidel, liit ise kaasa arvatud, on olemas ametlikud nimetused ja ka nende lühendid eesti keeles: Euroopa Liit ja EL, Euroopa Parlament ja EP, Euroopa Nõukogu ja EN, Euroopa Keskpank ja EKP.
The European Union has 24 official and working languages. They are: Bulgarian, French, Maltese, Croatian, German, Polish, Czech, Greek, Portuguese, Danish, Hungarian, Romanian, Dutch, Irish, Slovak, English, Italian, Slovenian, Estonian, Latvian, Spanish, Finnish, Lithuanian, Swedish.
Any person interviewed shall be entitled to use any of the official languages of the institutions of the Union. However, officials or other servants of the Union may be required to use an official language of the institutions of the Union of which they have a thorough knowledge.
