A solution of 95:5 by volume of benzene and acetone is introduced into the development chamber to an approximate depth of 1 cm. Alternatively, a 65:35 by volume mixture of hexane and ethyl ether may be used. The tank is closed and left for not less than half an hour to allow equilibration between vapour and liquid.
