  • The charmat method was developed and patented in 1895 by Italian Federico Martinotti. The method was further developed with a new patent by inventor Eugène Charmat in 1907 and is now named after him. This method of production is used mainly in Italian wines like asti and prosecco as well as cheaper varieties of sekt.
