  • This is the internalizing voice of the parent or other upbringer, criticizing and punishing patients, who become angry with themselves and feel that they deserve punishment for feeling and/or displaying normal needs which were punished when expressed in childhood. The tone of this mode is harsh, critical and unforgiving. Signs and symptoms include self-loathing, self-crticism, self-denial, suicidal fantasies, and self-destructive behavior.
