  • A method to determine if a cell really is pluripotent. This is done by taking an embryo at the two-cell stage and fusing the two cells by applying an electrical current. The resulting tetraploid cell will continue to divide, and all daughter cells will also be tetraploid (4n). If diploid pluripotent cells are injected and such an embryo is transplanted into the uterus, it will develop into a normal 2n embryo, whereas non-embryonic tissues are 4n. If the embryo can reproduce, then the initial analyzed cells have really been pluripotent.

  • Kaherakulises staadiumis embrüot mõjutatakse elektrivooluga nii, et rakkude membraanid ühinevad ning tulemuseks on tetraploidne (4N) rakk. Kui sellesse süstida diploidseid (2N) pluripotentseid rakke ja viia taoline embrüo emakasse, siis areneb välja normaalne 2N loode, kusjuures lootevälised koed on tetraploidsed (4N). Kui tekkiv 2N organism on ka sigimisvõimeline, siis on algsed tüvirakud olnud pluripotentsed - võimelised andma nii kõiki somaatilisi kui sugurakke.
