Moonet võib liigitada eri kriteeriumide alusel: deformatsiooniviisi järgi (nt normaalmoone ja nihkemoone), taastuvuse järgi (nt elastne deformatsioon ja plastne deformatsioon) või matemaatilise mõõdu järgi (nt insenerideformatsioon ja logaritmiline ehk tõeline deformatsioon). Strain may be classified according to different criteria: deformation mode (e.g. normal strain and shear strain), recoverability (e.g. elastic strain and plastic strain), or mathematical measure (e.g. engineering strain and logarithmic, or true, strain). These classifications are complementary: a particular strain may be described using more than one criterion.
