    • A crystal consisting of at least two chemical elements, with the foreign atoms distributed statistically within the host lattice. A distingtion should be made between a substitutional solid solution in which the solute atoms are substituted for those of the solvent ans an interstitial solid solution in which the solute atoms are inserted between those of the solvent.
