  • cementite precipitating from austenite upon cooling below Acm (1147 - 727 oC) and exists in addition to pearlite in hypereutectoid steels (see: cementite, free cementite, austenite, pearlite, hypereutectoid steel; compare: primary cementite, tertiary cementite)
    Good to know
    • This is a result of decrease of the carbon solubility in austenite upon cooling. Proeutectoid cementite is a separate, structurally free constituent in iron-carbon alloys i.e. not in association with cementite in pearlite. (see: austenite, cementite, pearlite, free cementite)
