Encirclement is a double envelopment where both axis link up in the enemy’s rear. It may be conducted intentionally to isolate enemy forces or may be the result of exploiting a double envelopment.The purpose is to cut off the enemy from any support in order to either force him to surrender or to neutralize and destroy the trapped force. The main effort will be with the force passing around on that axis which promises the quickest success.
