Domestic animal is any animal that lives in a human household. Domestic animal per se might not be domesticated and might not be suitable for living with humans. Domestic animals might not be significantly or at all genetically different from their wild conspecifics. Domesticated animals are domestic animals, but domestic animals are not always domesticated. For example, farm foxes are domestic but not domesticated. Exotic pets are domestic but not domesticated (e.g. snakes, tortoises, ferrets).
