  • is a (storm)wave-deposited on-shore ridge running parallel to a shoreline; composed of sand, gravel and pebble; the height is affected by wave size and energy as well as by grain-size of the material. Commonly the proximal slope (seaward slope) is more gentle compared to lee side of the ridge. Due to post-glacial rebound in formerly glaciated areas beach ridges can be found at the distance of recent coast-line. In case of water-level rise, beach ridges are submerged and eroded.
