  • is a wet land terrain or plain without forest cover dominated by living, peat-forming plants with the peat (deposit of dead plant) cover to the depth over 30cm. Classified as fens (eutrophic) and bogs (oligotrophic or ombrotrophic) with transitional type being mesotrophic mires. ‘Mire’ is a wet area while ‘peatland’ is also used for drained land with peat cover.
