Conflation thus attempts to replace two or more versions of the same information with a single version that reflects the pooling, or weighted averaging, of the sources.
The process of conflation is a difficult task to automate, since it involves matching equivalent features, or parts of features, which due to inherent survey and digitizing errors may be in slightly different positions.
