ARIZONA DESERT – DAY. [This means that the following scene takes place] outside, EXT., somewhere in the ARIZONA DESERT; the time is DAY. (Field, 1984, p. 221) If either place or time changes, it becomes a new scene [and generally requires a new scene heading]. (Field, 1984, p. 163) Also called slug line.
