päähenkilö
the chief character whom the audience identifies with or cares about in a story, (Austin Community College, 2014) who may also be opposed by an "antagonist". Originally, in ancient Greek theatre, the protagonist was the principal actor in a drama. (Baldick, 2001, p. 207) He/she is usually depicted as the hero, but occasionally the protagonist is an antihero. (International Screenwriters' Association, 2017) See also hero, antihero, antagonist.
