  • the fictive entity to which the narrator directs his narration. (Schmid, 2013c) The term was coined by Prince (1971) following the French term “narrataire” (Barthes 1966, p. 10). Insofar as the narratee is an audience role more or less explicitly inscribed in a narrative text, it is distinct from both the actual reader and the implied reader (Herman, 2009, p. 189).
