A "type" may cover several versions of a product provided that the differences between the versions do not affect the level of safety and the other requirements concerning the performance of the product (c. f. initial type test and EC type examination). The direct field of application of a fire test will effectively define the type for fire safety purposes (e. g. products of a different colour will normally be of the same type).
