Notwithstanding that the collection and treatment of data and the organization of surveys at national level ought to remain the responsibility of the statistical services of the Member States, the Commission must ensure the collection, coordination and harmonization of statistical information at European level and provide for the harmonized methodologies for the management of Community policies.
