Interactive service of a CATV (cable television) system: the ability to authorize and pay for a specific cable programme as it is being viewed. The subscriber would send a data signal to the headend authorizing payment to view some specific programme. The headend would then send an encoded data signal back to the equipment in the home, which would descramble the programme to be viewed.
