Esmatasandi tervishoiu teenuseid toetavad teenused on: 1) Vabariigi Valitsuse 2. aprilli 2003. a määruses nr 105 „Haiglavõrgu arengukava” nimetatud haigla (edaspidi haiglavõrgu arengukava haigla) ambulatoorne eriarstiabi sisehaiguste, üldkirurgia, oftalmoloogia, günekoloogia, psühhiaatria, otorinolarüngoloogia, dermatoveneroloogia või taastusravi erialal; 2) proteeside, ortopeediliste ja muude abivahendite andmine; 3) rehabilitatsioon.
The first formal course in ophthalmology was taught at the medical school of the University of Göttingen in 1803, and the first medical eye clinic with an emphasis on teaching, the London Eye Infirmary, was opened in 1805, initiating the modern specialty.
