scintillation spectrometer - counter consisting of a phosphor or scintillator, eg NaI(Tl), which, when radiation falls on it, emits light which is detected and amplified by a photomultiplier, the height of the pulses from which are proportional to the energy of the event. These pulses are further amplified and passed to a single- or multi-channel pulse height analyser, to measure the energy and intensity of the radiation.
