a bulk sweetener, about half as sweet as sucrose, consisting of a mixture of two disaccharides, glucosyl-glucitol and glucosyl-mannitol
a mixture of hydrogenated mono- and disaccharides whose principal components are the disaccharides
Good to know
It is thought to be less laxative than sorbitol or mannitol, and does not encourage tooth decay, so is used in tooth-friendly sweets. It absorbs little water, so products are less sticky than those made with sucrose and have a longer shelf-life.
Polüoolid on kasulikud hambakaariese tõrjeks, seetõttu kuuluvad nad närimiskummide koostisesse. Tuntumad polüoolid on mannitool, sorbitool, isomalt, ksülitool, maltitool, laktitool.
Isomalti (E 953) toodetakse tavalisest suhkrust.
Isomalt (E 953) is manufactured in a two-stage process in which sugar is first transformed into isomaltulose and then hydrogenated. The crystalline form is obtained by a drying process afterwards.
