  • a generic term used to describe protective clothing which offers varying degrees of insulation from cold air and water. Three types of suits are currently being used offshore: (1) helicopter suits which are used by personnel while being transferred by helicopter; (2) insulated coveralls which are used by personnel working in a cold environment; (3) survival suits which are water and windproof one-piece garments designed to give wearers maximum protection from hypothermia.
  • a garment intended to protect the wearer from the effects of prolonged exposure to water, cold and wind. Such a garment is usually a one-piece suit of insulated and waterproofed fabric, with elastic cuffs and sleeves, feet and neck designed to prevent ingress of water.
