Electrically programmable Read Only Memory (EPROM) is ideally suited for uses where fast turn-around and pattern experimentation are important. The transparent quartz lid allows the user to expose the chip to ultraviolet light to erase the bit pattern. Therefore, unlike a metal mask Read Only Memory where a pattern cannot be changed, a new pattern can be written in to the EPROM devices.
