Alkohol loetakse täielikult denatureerituks, kui see on denatureeritud vastavalt komisjoni määrusele (EÜ) nr 3199/93 aktsiisivabastuse eesmärgil alkoholi täieliku denatureerimise menetluste vastastikuse tunnustamise kohta (EÜT L 288, 23.11.1993, lk 12–15).
Drinkable alcohol is subject to tax in most countries, and for industrial use it is denatured to render it unfit for consumption by the addition of 5% methyl alcohol (methanol, CH3OH, also known as wood alcohol), which is poisonous. This is industrial rectified spirit.
