  • a propeller consisting of a horizontal disc carrying a number of vertical blades uniformly spaced around its circumference. The disc is driven so as to rotate about a vertical axis. During its travel around the disc axis, each blade is caused to tilt cyclically by a mechanical linkage, and is phased so that a mean fluid lift force is generated.
