Article 85 of the Treaty of Rome outlaws agreements which prevent, restrict or distort competition within the Community. Article 86 prohibits the abuse by a company of a dominant position (q.v.) The Commission is obliged to act to prevent practices such as price-fixing or market sharing (q.v.) agreements between enterprises.
