Member States (at Federal or State level) appoint approved bodies, notify them to other Member States and the Commission and ensure that they carry out their tasks correctly. Member States shall withdraw approval from a body if this is necessary (conditions are laid down) Approved bodies (private organization or under public laws) carry out EEC type-examination (q.v.) They grant, refuse, suspend or withdraw EEC type-examination certificates in accordance with the provisions of the directives concerned.
