The Organization of American States is an intercontinental organization comprising 35 independent countries of the Americas. It was founded on 30 April 1948 with the signing in Bogotá, Colombia, of the Charter of the OAS by 21 countries, for the purposes of regional solidarity and cooperation among its member States.
Within the United Nations, the OAS is a regional agency.
Nimetada Eesti Vabariigi esindajaks alalise vaatleja staatuses Ameerika Riikide Organisatsiooni juurde ametikoha järgselt Eesti Vabariigi Suursaatkonna Washingtonis erakorraline ja täievoliline suursaadik ning tema asendajaks ametikoha järgselt Eesti Vabariigi Suursaatkonna Washingtonis diplomaat poliitika küsimustes.
