Ühenduse tolliseadustikus on prantslastel "territoires d'outre-mer et des collectivites territoriales", sest koloniaalmaade staatus oli muutunud (EN: overseas territories and "collectivites territoriales", ET: ülemerealad ja territoriaalühendused). Terminid ei ole sünonüümid, piirkonnad pole kattuvad. Territoriaalühendused on Mayotte, Saint-Pierre ja Miquelon. Ülemerealad on Prantsuse Lõunaalad (saared: Amsterdam, Crozet, Kerguelen, Saint-Paul), Prantsuse Polüneesia, Uus-Kaledoonia, Wallis ja Futuna. {02.03.1999}
