Suurt tähelepanu pööratakse keskkonnaprobleemide lahendamisele ja transpordiküsimustele. Komisjoni 55 liikmesriigi hulgas on peale Euroopa maade ka Ameerika Ühendriigid, Kanada ning mitmed Kesk-Aasia ja Põhja-Aafrika riigid. ÜRO Euroopa Majanduskomisjoni peakorter asub Genfis.
