When normal approval or extension cannot be granted for certain instruments, a limited approval or extension may be granted after the other Member States have been informed and, where appropriate, consulted. In the case provided for in the third indent, prior consultation is mandatory if the place of installation is situated in a State other than the one issuing the EEC certificate of pattern approval. EEC pattern approval may be subject to the following restrictions: - limitation of the period of validity to less than ten years; - limitation of the number of instruments which can be approved; - an obligation to notify the competent authorities of the places of installation; - limitation of use.
