  • Ackerman steering - the steering system commonly used on four-wheel vehicles, such as the automobile. The wheels are not on a common axle, but pivot on their own individual axles in a coordinated fashion, with the wheel on the inside of the turn placed at a slightly greater angle than the wheel on the outside of the turn, allowing each to trace curves of different radii emitting from the same point.
Ackerman principle
Usage examples
  • New (all terrain) four-wheeled vehicles with a single-cylinder 4-stroke 395-cm3 spark ignition internal cobustion piston engine ... The vehicles have a seat for one passenger only and handle bar mounted controls. The steering mechanism is based on the Ackerman priciple.
