Eestis hakati tänavakorvpalli mängima 1993. aasta 6. juunil. Vähemalt 10-aastat mängiti õues, ühe korvi all, 3×3 formaadis ning ala nimetati tänavakorvpalliks. 2000. aastate keskpaiku hakati Eestis mängima ka teistes formaatides – 5×5 ja 1×1, mille tõttu traditsiooniline tänavakorvpall sai täienduse “3×3 tänavakorvpall”. 3x3 korvpalli mängitakse ühe korvi all, väljaku suurus on 15 meetrit (laius) x 11 meetrit (pikkus). Väljakule on märgitud kolmesekundiala, vabaviskejoon (5,8m), 2-punkti joon (6,75) ning otsatormamisveata poolring (1,25m). Mängudeks võib kasutada ka poolt traditsioonilisest korvpalliväljakust.
3x3 is simple and flexible enough to be played anywhere by anybody. All you need is a hoop, a half-court and six players. Events can be staged outdoor and indoor in iconic locations to bring basketball directly to the people.
