Effective ventilation must be provided when batteries are installed in a closed compartment, cupboard or chest. The air must enter at the bottom and be discharged at the top so that total evacuation of the gas is ensured. Ventilation ducts must not include devices capable of obstructing the air flow (e.g. shut-off valve).
