- A condition which affects some austenitic steels which have been subjected to temperatures in the critical range, typically 430-760 oC; complex chromium carbides precipitate and reside primarly at the grain boundaries, causing deteriotation of its corrosion resistance by depleting its adjacent areas of chromium.
