The principal objective of the Interpretative Documents (IDs) is to establish the link between the Essential Requirements and the mandates which the Commission gives to European standardisation bodies to establish harmonized standards and to the European Organisation for Technical Approvals to establish Guidelines for European Technical Approvals.
The Guidance Paper refers, in particular, to Articles 2(1), 3(2), 4(2), 6(1), 6(3), 12(2) and 20 of the CPD and sections 1.2 of the Interpretative Documents. The full text of these provisions can be found on the Internet site of DGIII/D3.
