Neurosurgery is concerned mainly with head injury involving internal bleeding; tumours of the brain or spinal cord; disorders of the spinal skeleton affecting the spinal cord; abnormalities of the arteries of the nervous system, such as aneurysms around the base of the brain; congenital disorders such as hydrocephalus or spina bifida; and abscesses of the nervous system following infection.
