  • Term coined by Todorov (1969). The academic study of narrative. Classic models of narratology adopt a structuralist approach and take up and develop further the ideas of Barthes, Bremond, Greimas or Genette. Since approximately 1980, the term narratology has also been used interchangeably with the more general terms narrative research, narrative theory and even narrative studies. (Fludernik, 2009, p. 158)
