Mehhaniseeritud üksused kuuluvad raske- või kesküksuste klassi sõltuvalt tulejõust ja soomustatusest. Kui üksuses on ülekaalus tankid, loetakse see raskeüksuseks. Kui ülekaalus on soomustransportöörid või jalaväe lahingumasinad, on tegu keskmise üksusega.
