Mõõtekiil surutakse märja võrgu- või noodalina silma. Mõõdetakse 20 silma ühes reas piki lina mitte lähemal kui 10 silma või 50 -m küljeõmblusele (pinele, selisele) ja silmasuuruseks loetakse mõõtmistulemuste aritmeetiline keskmine.

In the case of the latter the width shall be inscribed every 1 mm interval and the indication of the width shall appear at regular intervals.
