  • Lesehauet hakkavad esmajoones kasvatama pered, kes valmistuvad sülemlema. Lesehauet kasvatatakse spetsiaalsetes lesekannudes, mille läbimõõt on 7 mm ja sügavus 13–16 mm. Viljastamata ema võib muneda ka tööliskannudesse, millest arenevad küll isamesilased, kuid nad on väiksemad ja ka lühema elueaga. Kui mesilasema on munenud suurema hulga viljastamata mune lesekannudesse, on sellest perest 40 päeva pärast oodata sülemit. Kaanetatud lesehaudme olemasolu on märgiks, et võib alustada mesilasemade kasvatamisega.
