The contents of the flask are quantitatively transferred to a separating funnel of 500 ml capacity with the aid of 2 × 25 ml distilled water. Approximately 80 ml of ethyl ether are added, the whole shaken vigorously for 30 seconds and then left to stratify (Note 1).
