Used as a firming agent for sliced apples and other fruit, in apple pie mix, as a jelly ingredient, in certain cheeses to aid coagulation, in artificially sweetened fruit jelly, and in canned tomatoes. Used also to preserve wood, fireproof materials, in automobile antifreeze, and as a dust control on unpaved roads.
