Domain air traffic
angle of attack
AOA
  • angle between the oncoming air, or relative wind, and a defined reference line on the aeroplane or wing
Good to know
  • Valdkond ICAO lisade põhjal loodud klassifikaatori järgi: Lennutegevus
kohtumisnurk
Usage examples
  • Tüüri äärmises asendis hoidmine on õhutakistus (lennuki asend õhu suhtes on nina üleval) ning vajatakse suuremat tõstejõudu ja suuremat kohtumisnurka, mille tulemusena takistus on suurem ja varisemiskiirus suurem.
angle of attack
Usage examples
  • In order to not lose altitude, the pilot must increase the wing’s angle of attack (AOA) to ensure that the vertical component of lift is sufficient to maintain altitude.
AOA abbreviation
Usage examples
  • As the AOA increases, lift as well as drag increases; however, above a wing’s critical AOA, the flow of air separates from the upper surface and backfills, burbles and eddies, which reduces lift and increases drag. This condition is a stall, which can lead to loss of control if the AOA is not reduced.

  • purjeprofiili pikkuse ja suhtelise tuule suuna vaheline teravnurk. Termin väljendab vaid juhtusid, kui suhteline tuul on eestpoolt traaversit.
  • the acute angle between the chord of an airfoil (sail) and the relative wind
    Good to know
    • The term applies to a sail only when the relative wind is forward of the beam.
