  • 1990 liitusid Hispaania ja Portugal, 1995 Kreeka. 2001 anti suurem osa WEU ülesandeid üle EL-ile. Eesti on aastast 1994 WEU-ga assotsieerunud partnerriik.

  • WEU was created by the Treaty on Economic, Social and Cultural Collaboration and Collective Self-Defence signed at Brussels on 17 March 1948 (the Brussels Treaty), as amended by the Protocol signed at Paris on 23 October 1954, which modified and completed it.
  • The WEU organs are undergoing a process of liquidation and closure. WEU will cease to exist as a Treaty-based International Organisation on 30 June 2011.
