Päeva tähistatakse alates 2003. aasta 29. maist – sel päeval 1948. aastal loodi ÜRO relvarahu järelevalve organisatsiooni (UNTSO) esimene rahuvalvemissioon 1948. aasta Araabia-Iisraeli sõja lõpul kehtestatud relvarahutingimuste täitmise jälgimiseks.
ÜRO relvarahu järelvalve organisatsiooni UNTSO (UN Truce Supervision Organization) missioonil Lähis-Idas osaleb Eesti aastast 1997.
