Established by the General Assembly by its resolution 60/251 of 15 March 2006 as one of its subsidiary bodies. Based in Geneva, Switzerland, in replacement of the Commission on Human Rights, to address violations of human rights, including gross and systematic violations, and promote effective coordination and the mainstreaming of human rights within the United Nations system.
